The Director of AKBS Social Community Program, H.E. Sir Luis Suarez Hernandez Ph.D.H. and his wife H.E. Dayamy Rodriguez Aponte had been honored as Knight Grand Cross and Dame Commander of the “Royal Order of the Star of Oceania” given by the only recognized Royal House that is still in the Hawaiian Islands (House of Kamakahelei).
The Royal House of Kamakahelei (Hawaii) is a legitimate house from the bloodline of Kamakahelei, who was the only daughter of High Chief Kaumeheiwa, the son of High Chief Lonoikahaupu and High Chiefess Kamuokaumeheiwa, and his wife, High Chief Kaʻapuwai, possibly the daughter of Peleioholani, Alii Nui of Oahu and Alii Nui of Kauai
According to tradition, her grandfather Lonoikahaupu was five generations in descent from the 13th Alii Aimoku of Kauai, Kalanikukuma. His family had traditionally ruled in Waimea and the south-western section of the island, although always in subordination to the elder line of Kauaian chiefs. It is unclear why Kamakahelei succeeded Peleioholani as the Aliʻi of Kauaʻi. It is not certain that she was his granddaughter or a close relative. The legends remain silent between the transaction of rule between the two dynasties.
H.R.H. Prince Darrick Lane Hoapili Līloa Kamakahelei Baker is the Ali‘i Nui and Head of the House of Kamakahelei and has since 2016 assumed the role of interim protector of the royal heritage of Hawai’i, including the royal orders of the former Kingdom. Prince Darrick is related to both King Kalākaua and Queen Liliʻuokalani, and a descendant of ruling ali‘i from the various pre-unification Hawaiian island domains.
In proud defense of this heritage, the House of Kamakahelei sees its role as traditional leaders to serve the Hawaiian people. Central to this is educating people about the history of the Hawaiian Kingdom. In addition, the House of Kamakahelei conducts fundraising for causes that advance of all Hawaiian people with respect to health and cultural vitality, particularly language. Further to this aim as custodians of the land, the House of Kamakahelei seeks to defend and protect the oceans and environments of the Pacific region; and to develop a community of like-minded traditional indigenous leaders throughout our Oceania region.
