We are honored to welcome Prof. Dr. Luka Powanga in the Advisory Board of Al-Khalifa Business School.

Dr. Luka Powanga is a professor in the Anderson College of Business at Regis University and the Executive Director of the Global Commerce Forum.

He holds a BSC degree in Metallurgy and Mineral Processing, Masters and PhD degrees in Mineral Economics from Colorado School of Mines with a minor in Finance from the Graduate School at Denver University.  He also holds a Masters degree in Computer Information Technology and Graduate Level Certificate in Object-Oriented Programming from Regis University.  His industry and academic experience spans over thirty years at middle and senior management levels.  He consults in mining and international business management. He taught at Colorado School of Mines before transitioning to Regis University.

Dr. Luka Powanga is globally recognized as a creative problem solver, a visionary and a thought leader.  During his tenure, he has deployed various classroom and online programs at graduate level including collaborative programs with the Universities of Ulster in Ireland, and ITESO in Mexico.  

He was part of a small team that pioneered the flagship Online MBA Program which grew from zero to over 4,000 students from all over the world.  He led the launch of the Physicians MBA program and the MBA degree in the Business of Government. He is well-published and is a highly sought-after speaker and has appeared in many news outlets.

As plant Metallurgist, he led the team that integrated the $250 million new Solvent Extraction Electrowinning plant into the old plant in readiness for commissioning.

Dr. Powanga was the founding member of the Denver chapter of the Angel Capital Group, now Sheltowee Angel Network commonly known as the League of Extraordinary Investors.

As the founder and Executive Director of the Energy Africa Conference, the premier energy conference on Africa, he leverages the conference’s vast network of investors, EPCs, project developers and other professions to form partnerships that actualize energy, agricultural and healthcare projects in Africa to help recast the lives of the continent’s citizens.  He is also the Managing Editor of the Journal of Global Commerce Research and the Journal of Current Research in Global Business.  He is currently the US correspondent for CargoNews Asia a trade magazine based in Hong Kong. He also sits in many boards.
