During the protocol meeting, the Rector of the Vicente Rocafuerte School, Eng. Ricardo Ortega, presented Ambassador Luis Suárez Hernández with the pin and a school shield and Ambassador Suárez had the honor and privilege of signing the illustrious guest book.

The National School “Vicente Rocafuerte” (founded under the name of Colegio del Guayas), is an educational center founded on December 26, 1841 at the request of the Governor of Guayaquil, the then president Juan José Flores. On December 10, 1900, the name “Vicente Rocafuerte” National College was granted by legislative decree of the National Congress. Their slogan is: Where there is a VR there is a champion.

On December 26, 1841, the Governor of Guayaquil, Vicente Rocafuerte, made a petition to the President of Ecuador, Juan José Flores for the creation of a student body in Guayaquil. After by means of a decree, the president accepted the creation of the campus that was named Colegio del Guayas, on February 1, 1842. The campus had Dr. Francisco Teodoro Maldonado Cora as its first rector. On May 18, 1843, a restoration of the campus was decreed, due to scarce economic resources. It was decided to change the name of the school to San Vicente del Guayas on December 4, 1847, in homage to Vicente Rocafuerte who died on May 17 of that year. Finally, on December 10, 1900, it was decided to change the name to Colegio Nacional Vicente Rocafuerte.

The first rector to lead the school was Dr. Francisco Teodoro Maldonado Cora. The painter Theo Constante was a student, teacher and rector of the school. In 2009, Carmen López de Gutiérrez, Professor of Mathematics, became the first woman to hold the post of rector of the school.

Thirteen (13) students have become presidents of the republic, among whom are: Lizardo García, José Luis Tamayo, Alberto Guerrero Martínez, Emilio Estrada, Alfredo Baquerizo Moreno, Juan de Dios Martínez Mera, Carlos Arroyo del Río, Carlos Julio Arosemena Monroy, Otto Arosemena Gómez, Carlos Julio Arosemena Tola, Jaime Roldós Aguilera.
